Horizon Europe is a program promoted by the European Commission as a continuation of the Horizon 2020 program which successfully funded hundreds of European projects in the period 2014-2020. For the period 2021-2027, Horizon Europe will be focused on three main pillars: Excellent Science, Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness, Innovative Europe. Excellence Science focuses on the actions of the European Research Council and it acts to promote scientific excellence, autonomy, efficiency and transparency within the European Union.

The second pillar focuses on creating projects around health, safe and inclusive society, digital world and industry, climate and energy, natural resources. The idea is to promote activities and projects that fall under these categories, in order to improve the community and create an ecosystem of technologies.

The third pillar, Innovative Europe, focuses on expanding innovation of cutting edge technologies through the creation of the European Research Council.

Actum4 was part of a selected group of European start-up associations, entrepreneurs and influencers invited by the European Innovation Council Task Force of DG Research and Innovation. The objective of the workshop was to learn the needs of the European start-up ecosystem and establish topics and challenges to be prioritised in the Horizon Europe program 2021-2027.
